MGV Episode 03 Is Up
For the third show I would like to change things up a bit. So segment 1 will be the norm of us going over the games we have been playing since last time and going over the homework.
And after we talk about the games we have been playing we will go into segment 2
For segment 2 I would like to talk about the recent news about the kid in Canada who ran away from home and then died when he fell out of the tree. I really don’t want to go over the death of the kid but instead I would like to talk about how the media twist and turns facts into fiction. And along with this I would like to go into the childhood of ourselves. Tell stories about when we were younger and how games played into our daily lives. Also go into any story that you remember that effected you in anyway. For example I would tell the story of when my dad and I spent hours playing Faxnanado on the NES. It was a school night and my dad told me to go to bed but my room as across from where he was playing the game. I would sneak into the room and watch him play. After the third time of telling me to go to bed, he let me sit next to him and watch. We stayed up until 5 in the morning the next day finishing the game. It was by far the most memorial time I had playing a video game. I think we all have stories like this and we can go over all of them. I think that it would get us more at ease with each other and talking on the podcast.
Now after Segment 2 we go into any news and home for the next podcast
[Segment 3]
In the news we have the selling off of Midway and MK to the highest bidder. We could talk about what kind of MK game we would like to see.
Now for homework. What I would like to do is for us to get an achievement that you don’t already have and talk about how to get the achievement. What we could do is say which achievement we are going for in what game. We should make it a good and hard one. And then on the next podcast we could talk about how we got the achievement.

Episode 02 is Here
Intro Plays:
Welcome once again to the bi-weekly podcast of the Modern Gamers View. I’m TheMuffin and I’ll be holding the reigns for this episode.
Along with me today is the ever venerable
TiberWolf. Gamertag TiberWolf3rd.
Also joining us are two folks you’ve all yet to meet.
Richard Munch?
As with last week, I’d just like to state the goal of the podcast. To give you, the listener an unabashed viewpoint on the games we play from a gamers point of view. No bought off review site politics, no ‘holier than thou’ downtalking. We speak about the games on your level because we’re on your level. So with that, lets bust into the first part of podcast #2.
[Segment 1]
As will become customary to every show, we start off with an update on what everybody has been playing in the prior two weeks. Since the last show left us with “homework” to play The Darkness and Dark Sector, we’ll cover those two first.
Tiber... Played Star War Force Unleashed, Street Fighter IV, a little COD 4, and the home work games.
Munch…
Muffin… Uhh, I didn’t get to cover The Darkness because my system not only red ringed, but after fixing that, it also stopped reading discs for a night or two. So only covering Dark Sector this week. Also going over Street Fighter IV.
[Segment 2 (After little break music)]
With segment three I’ll be passing control over to Tiber as this is his pet subject. That being the difference between a good story, and a good narrative. Also bringing up the idea that a game can have one or the other, both, or neither including examples.
Tiber?....
“So let me define what i think narration means. A narration is the process of which a story is told. The actions, words, and emotion that happens during the telling of a story.
And that means that a story can be defined by the over all events, actions, emotions, and thoughts that are shown through the narration. A story is what surrounds the narrative and gives the action scope.
So with that in mind, can you have a good story with bad narration? Can a bad story be over looked if the narration of the story is done well? Let me give some examples of each to start.
broken and imcomplete. With Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare being the closest the series has ever gotten to telling a fulfilling story that seems to work. “
“another contrite discussion on the subject with all parties involved”
[Segment 4 after a break (play break Music)]
So with that, we come to our final topic. Homework. Last week, as stated earlier, we covered a “Dark” theme with The Darkness and Dark Sector. This week, we’re going to keep to a more money conscious mindset and keep things simple. The homework is very straight forward. Go through your collection, find a game you haven’t finished, and complete it. Not to 100% unless you want to, but at the very least, finish the main story line. Even if it’s a game you haven’t had time to trade in because it was horrible beyond belief, it’s your duty to put time into it for the next two weeks.
In closing, If there are any games you would like us to try out or if you are looking for some people to play online with, send us an email at moderngamersview@gmail.com. Also be sure to visit the site at www.moderngamersview.com to get a condensed transcript of this episode or to leave us a comment.
So until next time have a great day from the MGV crew and make sure you “*Tune” in to hear what we’ve got on our minds a couple weeks from now!
[Outro plays…]
*lol, bad pun alert.

The first Official Podcast MGV
Modern Gamers View Podcast Notes Episode 1
Intro Plays:
Welcome to the first bi-weekly podcast of Modern Gamers View. I am your host Tiber, gamer tag tiberwol3rd, and to my virtual left we have...
Muffin, gamer tag TheIVIuffin,
Just let me start with a little history. We started this podcast for the people who are like us and like to play games for fun. So many podcast and websites on the Internet are from people who are “in the industry” and seem to have a limited point of view. We don't rate games and we don't judge the people who create them. We play games and report what we think. Simple, clear and free. Now our gamer tags are for the XBOX Live. We are not here to be XBOX fan boys or anything. We talk about games and what we say about a game will not be about which console the game plays on better. If a game sucks, it will suck no matter what you play it on.
[Segment 1]
So I would like to start this podcast out with “What Games we have been playing.” So what have we been playing..Muffin?
Muffin…Left 4 Dead…. And that’s pretty much it.
Tiber...Over the last two weeks I have been playing Left 4 Dead with you two, but we will get into that is a second. Other than L4D I have been playing a great community game called Groove. It’s a top down space shooter that seems to be at first look a simple Geometry Wars clone. But this changes quickly when you start up the first level. Now the controls are just like GW in that the left stick moves the ship and the right stick fires your note driven bullets, and just like GW you can shoot 360 degrees. There is this soft music playing in the background that seems to be just too quiet. So the game starts with soft background music, enemies that start popping up and move in rhythm with the low music and you start to fire your guns but not only do you get bullets, you get musical sounds that under continued firing play the medley of the music for the game. By now you have hit a few of the enemies and heard their death sounds, deep bass notes that completes the song. After only a few seconds of play you find yourself listening the ever-changing song that you are creating by killing enemies. And then just as you get in a “Groove” the game goes and changes the tempo of the combat. When this happens your guns fire slower and you move slower. But not worry then next stage starts and you are now move faster and firing a mass amount of projectiles. The song is in full swing. This is how you go until you die. A couple of added things are the “bombs” of the game that can only be used on the 1st and 3rd beats of the measure of music. What the bombs do is slow the game play down for a very short time but you are still moving at normal speed. This comes in handy when you get yourself in a corner. This game is a lot of fun to play and if you found Boom Boom Rocket or Geometry Wars fun then you will want to pick up this little and cheap jewel. At only 200 MS point it is well worth it. And that is about it for me…
So over the last two weeks we all here at MGV have been playing Left 4 Dead co-op storyline…
[Segment 2 After little break music]
The main topic for this podcast is movies to games, games to movies, cartoon to movies, movies to cartoons, and well just anything else we can think of. How has the gaming market affected some movies and how has the movie to games effect what some people get when they spent 50 to 60 bucks on a game? With the up coming movies like G.I.Joe and Transformers 2, what are we expecting?
(Examples are transformers, iron man, and xmen, Ghostbusters...)
[Segment 3]
What I would like to do for this first podcast is to talk about games from 2008. What we played and what we think were our personal top five games. And why people should go out try them. So lets start with Muffin…
1>Gears of War 2
a. Improved on what was already there. Larger set pieces, larger battles and a larger story. Overall a valid and worthwhile sequel to a game that put the 360 on the map.
2>Prince of Persia
b. A new reboot to an old franchise. Beautiful to look at, good story, good AI mechanics. A bit on the forgiving side though to cater to new people. Wish there had been a mode to turn the helps off.
3>Mirrors Edge
c. New take on the FPS. Because you can go through without shooting. Relying on your reflexes and free running are essential and a great implementation. Can’t wait for the sequel…. If they make a sequel.
4>Dead Space
d. Brand new franchise from EA that has completely changed up the horror genre. Dismemberment is key to survival against the mutated forms of the humans you once worked with. Great atmosphere, great aiming system and the zero G segments were a blast.
5>Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
e. Sequel to the first big revolution of the Rainbow Six franchise since it’s inception. Co-Op was perfected in this version allowing you to go through the entire story with up to three other friends. Some might say it was more like rainbow Six: Vegas 1.5, but in my mind it added more than enough new features to warrant the full asking price. So incredibly helpful to have two primary weapons compared to one from the first Vegas.
And as for me I think that 2008 was a great year for games. We have Gears2, COD world at war, and Prince of Persia. So a list of the top games from 2008 would be:
1> Fable 2
a. Fable 2 was a great game to play. The story was fun as was all of the interaction with the game world. Some people have complained that the co-op was broken and yes it was but that still didn’t change the fact that the single player game was really well done.
2> Prince of Persia
a. Prince of Persia’s reboot some have said. Well I think that this game was more than a reboot. Colorful, huge, funny, and a joy to play is what this game has.
3> Gears of War 2
a. Gears 2 fulfilled most of the hole and questions I had from the first game. There were some glitches in the game but not enough to interfere in the story line and game play. And Horde mode is the best co-op play out right now.
4> Geometry Wars 2
a. Geometry Wars 2 is the most stressful game I have played since Wizards and Warriors back on the NES. I have never gotten so mad that I wanted to throw my controller as I did when I was playing the game type Waves and needed only one more wave to spawn to get an achievement. I died at least 100 times and wanting to yell at the game the whole time. And yet I was still having fun.
5> Braid
a. Braid is a hard game to sell at 1200 MS points. It was fun in a really confusing way. Some of the puzzles seem impossible to complete and then you would see some little movement and the entire puzzle became so simply. But you would still spend hours trying to do what you knew what must be do. The time play in Braid is done really well and feels part of the game and puzzles.
[Segment 4 after a break (play break Music)]
Homework. Every podcast we going to try and select 2 or 3 games for us to play over the next two weeks so we can bring you our opinions on games that you might have missed. If there were any games you would like for us to try out or if you are looking for some people to play online with, send us an email at moderngamersview@gmail.com. So for the next two weeks we are going to go to the dark side with this podcast's homework. We are going to check DarkSector and The Darkness. Yes these are two games that have been around for a while but they are both games that did not do so well in the ratings and sales. We are going to give them a try and let you know what we think. Now both of these are single player game with multiplayer matches and we will be playing both so if you have either of this games and see us online in a match join up.
And until next time have a great day from me Tiber, Muffin, and the MGV crew
Music plays…
